Redns0w 0.9.10b3: Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Updated To Fix Problem With MobileSubstrate Based Jailbreak Apps [Updated]

Ever since iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.10b2, which included a fix for the launchctl issue, a number of readers have reported that many jailbreak apps stopped running after re-running Redsn0w.

iPhone Dev team has just released a new version of Redns0w 0.9.10b3, which fixes the problem. They have provided the following information on their blog:
The b3 version of redsn0w fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again.  Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).
They also have the following tip for users who may have hit "no identifying data was found" while using Redsn0w:
TIP: If auto-detection fails and redsn0w tells you no identifying data was found, you can always pre-select the appropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using “Extras->Select IPSW”.
You can download the appropriate iOS 5.0.1 firmware file from this link and download Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 using this link for Mac and this link for Windows.

The Top Jailbroken Apps/Tweaks of 2011

In the below video we're covering the most popular jailbreak apps and mods you can obtain through Cydia. These usually wouldn't be possible, but with the help of jailbreaking, they are! Source : limera1n.cc

The 20 most useful Android smartphone apps of 2011

The Android Market may not have as many apps as the iPhone App Store yet, but there are still more than enough to be overwhelmed, and it continues to grow at a breakneck pace.

Remember that I primarily had business professionals in mind when making this list and also keep in mind that this is a snapshot in time. The Android platform is developing so quickly that I guarantee my home screen will look different a month from now.
Still, here’s my list of tried-and-true Android apps that I can highly recommend.

The 20 best apps for the iPad

Keep in mind that this list is skewed toward professionals and technophiles who are using the iPad on a daily basis, but I also realize that these folks tend to use tablets like the iPad for non-work stuff as well, like reading the news in the morning during breakfast or a little entertainment on the plane during a business flight.

The 20 best and most useful iPhone apps

The 20 best and most useful iPhone apps
Mobile apps have become an embarrassment of riches for iPhone and Android. In a world with over 500,000 iPhone apps and over 250,000 Android apps, the toughest part is finding the most useful stuff.

1. Camera+

The iPhone has developed into a strong platform for photography. The iPhone camera sensors keep getting better and better and the software is solid. But, one of the things that really makes the iPhone great as a camera is the wealth of excellent photography apps.

Cydia Is Now Saving SHSH Blobs For iOS 5.0.1 Firmware

What exactly are SHSH blobs and why are they required? An SHSH blob is a signature file which is verified against the Apple servers to ensure that the device is running the latest version of the firmware. The purpose of caching these signature files is to allow users to downgrade firmware, effectively restoring the device to an older version of iOS.

With the release of the iPhone 3GS; Apple decided not to just implement local protections, and instead made it so that every restore of a device would need to be individually verified by their servers. This is evident within iTunes during a restore, by looking at the top information bar you will be able to see ‘Verifying restore with Apple…’

The process consists of a simple challenge / response protocol which uploads a partial digest of the firmware file to Apple, which then decided whether or not to allow the restore. The caching of the users SHSH effectively allows this process to be bypassed, verifying the restore via Saurik’s servers instead.

An alternative to Cydia automatically performing this process is using the tool created by @ih8sn0w called iFaith which is dubbed as the first public SHSH dumper which allows users to dump the SHSH signatures of a devices current running firmware. Whilst similar in end result to methods like Cydia and TinyUmbrella, iFaith goes that step further and allows actual physical retrieval of the SHSH blobs. It is also worth noting that iFaith has no actual time constraints and can dump a devices signatures even after Apple has stop signing that firmware.

Getting back to Cydia, if indeed Cydia has started caching blobs once more, it comes at a perfect time with the impending release of the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. The jailbreak, set to be released imminently by the Chronic Dev Team will more than likely be followed up by a point release from Apple to iOS 5.0.2 (or 5.1) which will attempt to close the exploit used in the 5.0.1 untether.

All seems well at the present for the jailbreak community with Cydia back in action, a jailbreak coming and a multitude of tools available for us to use.

DFU mode for beginners

What is DFU mode?
Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode is a special failsafe mode which Apple has built into all of their devices so that they can restored to a stock iOS firmware regardless of the state they may be in. It is implemented at a lower level than the normal recovery mode, which shows the "connect to iTunes cable" graphic on the screen of the iPhone. DFU mode by contrast has a completely blank screen so there is no way to tell you are in DFU mode by looking at the device.

What's the difference between DFU and normal recovery mode?
When your iPhone is in normal recovery mode you will see a graphic like this...

(remember, if you see this picture you are NOT in DFU mode)

List of Siri Commands

iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak tutorial

The latest version of Redsn0w, which is 0.9.9b8, can tether jailbreaking the iOS 5.0.1. However, before proceeding, there are a few points users must be aware of.

In a recent tweet, iOS hacker @pod2g warned users saying that those still waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, should not upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.

"Note about 5.0.1: don't update if you plan on jbking : the bug Charlie MILLER found can simplify exploits dramatically and will be closed," he tweeted.

According to reports, no method has been figured out yet to downgrade to iOS 5. Hence, if you upgrade to iOS 5.0.1, you might lose the chance of a potentially untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.

For those who already have iOS 5.0.1 running on their devices and wish to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1, here are the steps:

Install Siri Dictation On iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS And iPod touch 4G Using Siri0us

Great news for iPhone 4 users who have been waiting to get Siri on their devices; while hackers have been working a lot to port Siri on iPhone 4, some could now make Siri dictation available for free for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users. Siri dictation is a part from the full Siri part. Let’s have small how to guide below.
Siri on iPhone 4 has already been fully ported and we’ve seen it also on iPod touch 4G and iPhone 3GS. The port will not be released until an iPhone 4S is released to the public. Today, developer Eric Day developed a jailbreak tweak which brings Siri’s “dictation” on your iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
